After A While

After a while you will find
the difference between
taking a hand and owning a soul
that love doesn’t mean possession

Company doesn’t mean security
Love can never be an obsession
and you begin to know
kisses were never contracts

Presents were never promises
you start to accept your own defeats
with your head high and pride intact
as your growing up process completes
